Southeast Asia Rarities Certified by PMG and NGC Take the Stage in Monetarium Auction

A high-grade paper money rarity from Malaysia and a gold coin from Thailand are among hundreds of notes certified by PMG® and dozens of coins certified by NGC® being offered in an upcoming auction. Bidding is already underway for Monetarium’s Auction 40, which will be held on March 23, 2026.
The top single-note lot in the auction is a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 1,000 Ringgit graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1261), with an estimate of SGD26,000 to SGD30,000 (about $20,000 to $24,000). There are more than 300 examples of this note in the PMG Population Report, with none graded higher.
Other PMG-certified highlights include:
- a Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1973) 10,000 Dollars graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (lot 1327), with an estimate of SGD26,000 to SGD30,000 (about $20,000 to $24,000)
- a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1925 50 Dollars graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 1163), with an estimate of SGD16,000 to SGD20,000 (about $13,000 to $16,000)
- a Malaya & British Borneo / British Administration 1953 50 Dollars graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1225), with an estimate of SGD8,000 to SGD10,000 (about $6,300 to $7,800)
- a Malaya 1942 (ND 1945) 100 Dollars graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (lot 1201), with an estimate of SGD3,000 to SGD4,000 (about $2,400 to $3,100)
Meanwhile, the NGC-certified offerings are led by a Thailand (1863) Gold 8 Baht graded NGC AU 55 (lot 1007), with an estimate of SGD5,000 to SGD6,000 (about $3,900 to $4,700). It was issued during the 17-year reign of Rama IV, a reformist whose efforts to modernize his country were the background for the musical and movie "The King and I."
Other NGC-certified highlights include:
- a Straits Settlements 1888 20 Cents graded NGC MS 63 (lot 1142), with an estimate of SGD1,800 to SGD2,000 (about $1,400 to $1,600)
- a Straits Settlements 1893 50 Cents graded NGC VF 25 (lot 1141), with an estimate of SGD1,200 to SGD1,500 (about $900 to $1,200)
- a China YR24(1898) Chihli 5 Cents graded NGC AU 50 (lot 1041), with an estimate of SGD1,200 to SGD1,500 (about $900 to $1,200)
- a China 2025 Silver 10 Yuan Dragon - Macau City Edition graded NGC MS 70 with a First Day - MICC designation (lot 1083), with an estimate of SGD800 to SGD1,000 (about $600 to $800)
