PMG-certified Chinese Banknotes Sell for $144,000

A trio of vintage Chinese rarities was the top lot in a Heritage Auctions sale that featured over 400 banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®). The World Paper Money Signature Auction - Hong Kong was held on December 5, 2022.
Topping the auction was a group of three China 1953 10 Yuan notes with consecutive serial numbers, each graded either PMG 62 Uncirculated or PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated (lot 23169). Together, these notes realized $144,000. As the highest denomination of this short series, the 1953 10 Yuan represented a substantial sum of money at the time.

- a Hong Kong 1901 100 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 23319) that realized $24,000
- a Hong Kong 1904-06 100 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 23322) that realized $22,800
- a Hong Kong Chartered Bank ND (1962) 500 Dollars graded PMG 67★ Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 23306) that realized $20,400
- A China, Ming Dynasty 1368-99 1 Kuan graded PMG 45 Choice Extremely Fine (lot 23016) that realized $16,800
- a China, Ming Dynasty 1368-99 1 Kuan graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 23015) that realized $15,600
- a group of two China 1922 100 Dollars - Peking notes, one graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated and the other graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 23218), that realized $15,000
- a Hong Kong ND; 1911-23 10 Dollars Color Trial Specimen graded PMG 62 Uncirculated (lot 23300) that realized $14,400
