Historically Significant PMG-certified Chinese Note Offered in Heritage Sale

Chinese rarities are among over 300 banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) featured in the upcoming HKINF World Fair Paper Money Signature Auction presented by Heritage Auctions. Bidding opens around June 1 for the auction, which is scheduled for June 20, 2023.

Among the most interesting items in this auction is a China Duetsch-Asiatische Bank 1914 100 Dollars graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ. The Deutsch-Asiatische Bank made history as the first major non-British bank to establish its operations in China. In 1906, it obtained official authorization to issue banknotes, leading to the printing and distribution of various denominations through its branches in Hankow, Peking, Shanghai, Tientsin and even Kiau Chau. These banknotes embodied a harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, featuring text in three languages and incorporating design elements from both continents.
