Rare Vintage Indian Note Certified by PMG Leads Spink Auction
Posted on 7/18/2023
Hundreds of world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered as part of sale presented by Spink. Bidding is already underway for the World Banknotes e-Auction, which will be held July 27, 2023.
The top PMG-certified note in the sale is a Portuguese India 1924 100 Rupias Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 806), with an estimate of £10,000 to £15,000 (about $13,100 to $19,600). The rupia was the currency of Portuguese India, which consisted of a series of territories scattered along the coast from the late 1600s until 1958. Banco Nacional Ultramarino took over the issuance of paper money in 1906 but did not introduce the high denomination 100 and 500 rupias until 1924. This example is the finest of the nine listed in the PMG Population Report.
