What makes it special? The front of the banknote shows Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who is regarded as the founder of Pakistan. He was born on December 25, 1876, and the anniversary of his birth is a national holiday in Pakistan. Jinnah pressed for British India to be divided into India and Pakistan, and he served as Pakistan's first governor-general from its independence in August 1947 until his death just over a year later. Shown on the back of this note is the Quaid e Azam Residency in Ziarat, Pakistan, where Jinnah spent some of the last weeks of his life as he battled tuberculosis.

Did you know? Rupee is the name of the currencies used in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Seychelles and Mauritius (an island country near Madagascar). The name of the rupee comes from a Sanskrit word meaning a silver coin. These coins were struck more than 2,300 years ago in ancient India, one of the first places in the world to adopt coinage. The Indonesian Rupiah used today comes from the same root word.
