Among the notes available is a Spitsbergen, Mining Administration ND (1931) 1 Kopek graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 727). The Spitsbergen Mining Administration is a Russian state-owned enterprise that mines coal on Norway’s Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Uniquely, the administration also issued its own currency for internal use within the mining settlements during the Soviet era. Although no longer in circulation, these notes, particularly the Kopek notes, have become rare collector's items, reflecting the historical and economic significance of Russian mining activities on Svalbard.
