PMG-certified Vintage Notes from India Among Top Highlights in Noonans Sale

The August auction includes rarities issued by British authorities in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Rare Indian banknotes are among more than a hundred notes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) being offered to collectors in Noonans World Banknotes Auction on August 28, 2024.

Highlighting the auction is an India - British, Bank of Madras 1845-49 500 Rupees graded PMG 15 Choice Fine NET, which is estimated at £20,000 to £24,000 (about $26,000 to $31,000). Issued by the Bank of Madras, one of the three presidency banks of British India, this high-denomination note is one of only two in the PMG Population Report. Notes from this period are highly sought after by collectors for their historical value and intricate designs, which often feature elaborate engravings and watermarks indicative of the era's currency craftsmanship.

Other PMG-certified highlights in this auction include:

  • an India / British Administration 1913-22 50 Rupees graded PMG 20 Very Fine, which is estimated at £18,000 to £22,000 (about $23,000 to $28,000)
  • an India / British Administration 1915-26 1,000 Rupees graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine, which is estimated at £15,000 to £20,000 (about $19,000 to $26,000)
  • a Pakistan, State Bank ND (1972) 100 Rupees graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, which is estimated at £8,000 to £10,000 (about $10,000 to $13,000)
  • a Thailand, Government of Siam 1910-25 100 Ticals graded PMG 30 Very Fine, which is estimated at £4,000 to £5,000 (about $5,100 to $6,400)
  • an India / British Administration ND (1917-30) 10 Rupees graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated, which is estimated at £4,000 to £5,000 (about $5,100 to $6,400)
  • a French Equatorial Africa, Institut d’Emission ND (1957) 500 Francs graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated 64, which is estimated at £3,000 to £4,000 (about $3,800 to $5,100)
  • a Southern Rhodesia / British Administration 1954 £1 graded PMG 62 Uncirculated, which is estimated at £3,000 to £3,400 (about $3,800 to $4,400)
  • an Iraq, Government of Iraq 1931 Half Dinar graded PMG 15 Choice Fine NET, which is estimated at £2,000 to £3,000 (about $2,300 to $3,800)
  • an Iraq, Central Bank ND (1959) Half Dinar graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ, which is estimated £2,000 to £2,600 (about $2,300 to $3,300)
  • an Iraq, Central Bank 1947 (ND 1959) 10 Dinars graded PMG 30 Very Fine, which is estimated at £2,000 to £2,600 (about $2,300 to $3,300)
  • an India - British, Bank of Bengal 1812-24 250 Sicca Rupees graded PMG 15 Choice Fine NET, which is estimated at £2,000 to £2,600 (about $2,300 to $3,300)
