Monetarium Offering PMG-certified Notes and NGC-certified Coins from Southeast Asia

Hundreds of banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and dozens of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are being offered by Monetarium Auctions. Bidding is already underway for the Monetarium Auction 37, which focuses on rarities from Southeast Asia and is being held on August 15, 2024.

The top PMG-graded highlight in the sale is a pair of Malaya & British Borneo 1953 Specimen Proofs (1,000 and 10,000 Dollars) graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated NET and PMG 53 About Uncirculated (lot 1199), with an estimate of SGD80,000 to SGD100,000 (about $60,000 to $75,000). These rarities from the dusk of the British colonial era in Southeast Asia are dated one year after Queen Elizabeth II assumed the throne in 1952 at 25 years old, and each denomination's front contains a portrait of the young queen.

• a Malaya 1942 100 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated NET (lot 1159), with an estimate of SGD50,000 to SGD60,000 (about $37,700 to $45,200)
• a Malaya / British Administration 1942 (ND 1945) 100 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 45 Choice Extremely Fine (lot 1160), with an estimate of SGD40,000 to SGD50,000 (about $30,150 to $37,700)
• a Malaya / British Administration 1942 (ND 1945) 50 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated (lot 1165), with an estimate of SGD40,000 to SGD50,000 (about $30,150 to $37,700)
• a Malaya 1942; ND (1945) 50 Dollars Color Trial Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ and pedigreed to the Frank Goon Collection (lot 1164), with an estimate of SGD30,000 to SGD40,000 (about $22,600 to $30,150)
• a China / Empire Yuan Dynasty 1264-1341 2 Kuan graded PMG 12 Fine NET (lot 1297), with an estimate of SGD30,000 to SGD36,000 (about $22,600 to $27,100)

The top NGC-certified highlight in the sale is a lot of five Indonesia 1970 commemorative gold coins (2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 and 25,000 Rupiah) graded from NGC PF 67 Ultra Cameo to NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo (lot 1044), with an estimate of SGD70,000 to SGD75,000 (about $52,800 to $56,500). Issued to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Indonesian independence, each denomination featured a different theme and image on its obverse. This gold five-coin set of high denominations includes General Sudirman (25,000), the Garuda Bird (20,000), a Wayang Dancer (10,000), the Manjushri Statue (5,000) and the Great Bird of Paradise (2,000).

• a United States 1884 Half Dollar graded NGC PF 65 (lot 1051), with an estimate of SGD5,000 to SGD6,000 (about $3,800 to $4,500)
• a Straits Settlements 1909 Dollar graded NGC MS 63 (lot 1098), with an estimate of SGD5,000 to SGD6,000 (about $3,800 to $4,500)
