PMG-certified High-denomination Notes from the Netherlands Indies Offered in Heritage Auction

Posted on 9/20/2024

Rare banknotes from Canada and Suriname are also among more than 400 PMG-certified world notes featured in the mid-October auction.

High-denomination rarities from the Netherlands Indies are among hundreds of world notes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) that are being offered in a Heritage Auctions sale. Bidding is underway for the World Paper Money Signature Auction #4052, which is being held on October 17, 2024.

A top PMG-graded highlight in the sale is a Netherlands Indies, Javasche Bank 1864-88 1,000 Gulden graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 24335), which has an estimate of at least $20,000. While the auction features several high-denomination Gulden notes from the Dutch colony that became Indonesia (including 200, 300 and 500 Gulden), the 1,000 Gulden note is the highest denomination ever created. Of this particular catalog number, this is the lone example in the PMG Population Report.
