Posted on 10/22/2024
Banknote enthusiasts are in for a treat as a high-denomination note from the Philippines leads a diverse array of rare and certified treasures from around the world in the Crown Currency Live Auction 33 on October 24, 2024. More than 600 of the notes are authenticated and graded by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®).
Highlighting the auction is a Philippines Bangko Sentral 1998 100,000 Piso Commemorative graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 582). Marking the 100th anniversary of independence from Spain, this note showcases intricate engravings on both sides. It is the highest denomination issued by the Philippines and was at one time the largest banknote issued, measuring 8.5 by 14 inches, the dimensions of a sheet of legal size paper. With only 1,000 printed, and slightly more than 100 graded examples in the PMG Population Report, it stands as a scarce and highly sought-after commemorative issue.
