Note of the Month: Slovakia 100 Korun

It's the time of year when many people think about Mary, mother of Jesus. Medieval art depicting her appears on this note.

What makes it special? The front of this note shows a Madonna (an image of Mary) created by Master Paul of Levoča, a renowned medieval sculptor and carver. The back of the note shows the Basilica of St. James in Levoča, a Slovakian town located about halfway between Vienna, Austria and Lviv, Ukraine.

Did you know? The Basilica of St. James is a Gothic church that has the tallest wooden altar in the world, which was built by Master Paul in 1517. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009 and declared a minor basilica by Pope Francis in 2015.
