PMG Registry Featured Set: Philippines
Posted on 2/25/2025
Three new, colorful issues from the Central Bank of the Philippines were recently released, as confirmed by BanknoteNews. The 50 Piso, 100 Piso and 500 Piso notes each feature soft hues, a calming color palette and a certain species of wildlife native to the region. These notes are already available in the PMG Registry. Let’s take a look at an avid Philippine collector, Pinoynotes - Christopher N.C. Gibbs, and his extensive PMG Registry set found here.
Dating back to 2010, this carefully curated set is obviously a work of love. Pinoynotes has compiled a collection loaded with many notes that are graded an impressive PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ and higher, like his unique 100 Piso Radar note, graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ. Not including the new issues, this No. 1-ranked set is only three notes shy of 100% completion and boasts images for all notes. Be sure to view the colorful slideshow, which features significant figures, locations, fauna and wildlife.
This collector has gone the extra mile with his set descriptions and seeks to educate others. He offers detailed, interesting tidbits about the Bangko Sentral of Philippines, or BSP: “The 2010 series of banknotes could be the most controversial issue the BSP has ever released. After great expectations, this issue was released to the shock of just about everyone. The notes themselves look great, but with a plethora of mistakes, the BSP were forced to defend the designs.”
There are no mistakes in this set by Pinoynotes, nor in his many other Philippines sets. To the contrary, he has created 14 total Philippine sets and ranks No. 1 in almost all of them — quite an accomplishment.
We would be remiss if we did not also mention two of his Signature PMG Registry sets; they can be appreciated by PMG collectors of any country. They are all about the coveted, fancy serial numbers. One set has been painstaking assembled only with A and A/A prefixes. Another Signature set is comprised only of elusive 000 serial numbers. Nicely done, Pinoynotes! Thank you for sharing all your unique BSP collections. We look forward to whatever updates come next in all your sets!
Would you like your set to be chosen for a future article? 100% completion in a set is not always feasible. Our team features sets with thoughtful comments and images for their set descriptions and notes. It may be your set! Stay tuned.
