Posted on 2/24/2025

A rare Malaysian banknote and coin lead the way in the sessions of the early March sale.

More than 750 banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and more than 200 coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are being offered in a pair of Trigometric sales. Bidding is already underway for the Trigometric March 2025 Auction - Session 1, which is being held on March 8, 2025. Bidding is also underway for the Trigometric March 2025 Auction - Session 2, which is being held March 9, 2025.

A top PMG-graded highlight in Session 2 is a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976) 100 Ringgit with a Solid-2 Serial Number graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated (Session 2, lot 2075), with an estimate of RM50,000 to RM90,000 (about $11,300 to $20,400). Known for their bright colors and intricate designs, Malaysian banknotes are so coveted among collectors that they make up the third largest category in the PMG Population Report, behind only the United States and China. The solid serial number significantly adds to the value of this collectible, which already has an above-average grade among about 2,000 examples of this catalog number in the PMG Population Report.

Meanwhile, the top NGC-certified single-coin lot is a Malaysia 2007 Gold 100 Ringgit - Agong XIII Installation graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (Session 1, lot 1454), with an estimate of RM8,000 to RM12,000 (about $1,800 to $2,700). The coin was struck in honor of the installation ceremony of Mizan Zainal Abidin as the 13th King of Malaysia. Held since 1957, the ceremony is Malaysia's most important national event, which reaffirms the country's practice of constitutional democracy, as a "Yang di-Pertuan Agong" is confirmed every five years. Only nine total examples are listed in the NGC Census.
