'Top Pop' Vintage Chinese Note Among Hundreds of PMG-certified Rarities in Crown Currency Auction

The March auction also includes dozens of coins from Asia that are certified by NGC.

Rare coins and banknotes that are certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) or Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®), including dozens that are unsurpassed in the NGC Census and PMG Population Report, are being offered in the Crown Currency Live Auction 37 – Banknotes and Coins. Online bidding is already underway for the sale, which will be held March 12-13, 2025.

The auction includes more than 700 PMG-certified notes, including a China, Russo-Asiatic Bank 1917 3 Rubles graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 845). It is unsurpassed among the 131 examples listed in PMG Population Report for this note issued near the end of the existence of this bank, which was nationalized after the Russian Revolution.

  • a Central African States / Gabon 2000 500 Francs graded PMG 70 Gem Uncirculated EPQ★ (lot 198)
  • a Russia / North Russia, Chaikovskii Government ND (1919) 10 Kopeks graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 862)
  • a Georgia, Autonomous Republic 1921 5,000 Rubles graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 848)
  • a Gibraltar / British Administration 1995 5 Pounds graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 367)

The auction also includes dozens of NGC-certified coins, including a Philippines 1979FM 5 Piso graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (lot 56), which is tied for finest-graded in the NGC Census. This coin shows President Ferdinand Marcos along with the date of September 21, 1972, which is when he signed a proclamation placing the Philippines under martial law. Marcos was driven from power in the 1986 People Power Revolution; his son has served as president since 2022.
