Rare NGC-certified Coins and PMG-certified Banknotes in Monetarium Auction

A remarkable selection of coins and banknotes certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) and Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), respectively, from Singapore, India and Malaysia is hitting the auction block in Monetarium Auction 38 on March 24, 2025.
Among the PMG highlights is a group of 10 Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency (1970) 5 Dollars with Consecutive Serial Numbers graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ to PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1026) with an estimate of SGD90,000 to SGD100,000 (about $67,000 to $75,000). This note is part of Singapore’s first independent banknote series, known as the Orchid Series. With a green color scheme, it features the Vanda T.M.A. Orchid and the coat of arms on the front, while the back showcases the city’s growing skyline, symbolizing its rapid modernization. Consecutive serial numbers add value to this group of notes, especially in exceptional condition.

- a Malaysia, Bank Negara (1967-81) 1,000 Ringgit graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 1305), with an estimate of SGD40,000 to SGD60,000 (about $30,000 to $45,000)
- a Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1973) 10,000 Dollars graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 1060), with an estimate of SGD 36,000 to SGD 40,000 (about $27,000 to $30,000)
- a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1916-20 100 Dollars graded PMG 20 Very Fine (lot 1447), with an estimate of SGD30,000 to SGD40,000 (about $22,000 to $30,000)
- a Sarawak ND (1894-1917) 1 Dollar Specimen graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 1488), with an estimate of SGD30,000 to SGD40,000 (about $22,000 to $30,000)
Among the NGC-graded highlights is a China (undated) Silver Dollar - Fantasy Szechuen, Empress Tzu Hsi graded NGC MS 61 (lot 1242), with an estimate of SGD10,000 to SGD12,000 (about $7,500 to $9,000). Featuring an elegant portrait of Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi, one of China’s most powerful and controversial rulers in the twilight of the Qing Dynasty, the coin was created for collectors rather than circulation.

- a group of three Thailand (1968) Queen Sirikit’s Birthday (Gold 150, 300 and 600 Baht) graded NGC MS 66 to NGC MS 68 (lot 1625), with an estimate of SGD2,600 to SGD3,000 (about $1,900 to $2,200)
- a Malaya 1956 50 Cents graded NGC MS 65 (lot 1436), with an estimate of SGD2,200 to SGD2,600 (about $1,600 to $1,900)
- a Singapore 1975 Dollar graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (lot 1001), with an estimate of SGD800 to SGD1,000 (about $600 to $750)
