Posted on 3/24/2025
More than 350 banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in an upcoming A. Karamitsos sale focused on European rarities. Bidding is already underway for the Live Internet Auction 18 Part A & B, which is being held on April 12-13, 2025.
A top PMG-graded highlight in the auction is a Greece, National Bank 1900 10 Drachmai graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 6588), with a starting price of €3,500 (about $3,800). The Greek rarity features a small portrait of King George I of Greece from the latter years of his nearly 50-year reign. Originally a Danish prince who was born in Copenhagen, George I ascended the throne at only 17 years old in 1863. George I reigned for nearly five decades, until his assassination in 1913. Only 19 examples of this catalog number are in the PMG Population Report, with only three examples graded higher.
