Crown Currency Offers Banknotes with PMG’s Highest Grade

If you’re looking for world banknotes with an impeccable grade, there are 17 that earned the highest possible from Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) that are available to collectors in an upcoming sale. Bidding is already underway for Crown Currency Live Auction 38, which concludes April 16, 2025.

Among these notes is a Great Britain, Bank of England 2002 (ND 2004) £5 graded PMG 70★ Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 343). While widely circulated, these notes were eventually phased out in favor of the polymer £5 note introduced in 2016, which offered greater durability and enhanced security. As of March 24, 2025, there were 337 examples of this note in the PMG Population Report, but this particular example is the only one to earn the highest grade on the PMG Grading Scale.

Also offered is a Faeroe Islands / Danish Administration 2011 1,000 Kronur graded PMG 70★ Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 284). The note’s front features a detailed illustration of a sandpiper, a bird native to the islands. As of March 24, 2025, there were 334 examples of this note in the PMG Population Report, and this one is among 42 to earn the highest grade possible. The auction includes four other Faeroe Islands 2011 notes with PMG’s highest grade: a 50 Kronur (lot 280), 100 Kronur (lot 281), 200 Kronur (lot 282) and 500 Kronur (lot 283).
