Spink Offers Hong Kong Specimens and Other Rarities Certified by PMG

Posted on 3/24/2025

The early April sale includes banknotes from mainland China, Macau SAR, Hong Kong SAR and elsewhere.

An exciting group of more than 300 banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is being offered in a pair of Spink auctions. Bidding is already underway for CSS116A - Chinese Banknotes and Coins and CSS116B - World, Macau and Hong Kong Coins and Banknotes, which conclude on April 3, 2025.

A top PMG-graded highlight in the auctions is a complete set of five Hong Kong 1995 (20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 Dollar) Specimens graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated to PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated (lot 1215), with an estimate of HKD300,000 to HKD400,000 (about $39,000 to $51,000). In 1993, the Hong Kong Executive Council authorized the Bank of China to issue notes to the region. Finding a complete set of specimens in each denomination, like in this lot, is rare.
