PMG Offers Label Celebrating 50 Years of Singapore-Brunei Currency Deal

Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) is offering a special label for the $50 notes being issued by Singapore and Brunei to commemorate 50th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement (CIA) between the two countries.

Note: This special “Singapore & Brunei CIA 50th Anniversary” label will be available until December 31, 2017. Notes will then receive the PMG Standard Green Label.

Established in 1967, the Currency Interchangeability Agreement has meant the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam accept each other’s currency, which has played an important role in strengthening the economic ties between the nations.

The $50 Singapore and Brunei commemorative notes feature the 50th Anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement logo, which has a purple flower on the left (Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’), and a yellow one on the right (a simpur, representing Brunei.) The flowers reflect the warm ties between the neighbors in Southeast Asia.

The Brunei $50 note features a portrait of Hassanal Bolkiah, who has been the Sultan of Brunei since 1967, while the Singapore $50 note displays an image of its first president, Yusof bin Ishak, who served in the 1960s.

The notes can be obtained at banks in Singapore and Brunei, and were offered through the Singapore Mint (www.singaporemint.com) in limited-run sets.

These notes can now be encapsulated with a special PMG certification label that features the Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’ and simpur flowers found on the commemorative $50 notes. The label is available at no additional charge provided notes are submitted according to the special submission instructions below.

Submission Instructions:

• Submit the Singapore and Brunei Currency Interchangeability Agreement 50th Anniversary notes under any applicable PMG grading tier. These notes must be submitted on a separate PMG Submission Form to receive the special label.
• Write "CIA 50th Anniversary Label" in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form to request this special label. This will be the default label for all Singapore and Brunei Currency Interchangeability Agreement 50th Anniversary notes submitted on separate submission forms.
• If you would prefer the PMG Standard Green label, write “PMG Standard Green Label” on the PMG Submission Form.
• Notes received by PMG within 30 days of release are eligible for the “Early Releases” or “First Releases” special designations. There is an additional fee of $10 (USD) per note for the special designation verification and attribution. If you would like the “Early Releases” designation, write “Early Releases” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form. If you would like the “First Releases” designation, write “First Releases” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form. Submit Early Releases and First Releases notes on separate submission forms. • If you would like the original packaging returned, select or write “Return Packaging” in bold letters on the PMG Submission Form. If Return Packaging is selected, there will be an additional fee of $5 (USD) per invoice, as well as an additional shipping cost, depending on the weight of the packaging.
• If you have the shared-serial number set (that includes one Singapore note and one Brunei note), it can be encapsulated in a PMG Multi-Holder, by request, for an additional fee of $25 (USD). To choose this option, select Custom Holder (Small), and write “PMG Multi-Holder” on the submission form. Multi-Holder submissions must be made on separate submission forms.
• If you have the uncut sheet of three notes, select Custom Holder (Small) for an additional fee of $25 (USD). If you have the uncut sheet of eight notes, select Custom Holder (Large) for an additional fee of $50 (USD). Note: PMG does not have a holder to encapsulate the uncut sheet of 40 notes.
