What makes it special? In the last few months, PMG has seen an influx of metal notes, sometimes in gold, but often in silver. This note is a truly stunning piece, marrying numismatics to the modern epic of Star Wars. The back of the note features the iconic effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, while the front shows a color image of Darth Vader wielding his light saber on the left and a black and white scene of him with Princess Leia on the right. These notes are official Star Wars notes produced by the New Zealand Mint.

Why is it interesting now? June has many special holidays and a very important one is Father’s Day. Here at PMG the first dad on a bank note that we thought of was the Sith Lord himself: Darth Vader. It’s true that he might not be the galaxy’s best father. After all, he choked his pregnant wife and, after childbirth, continually tried to kill his two children… Let’s be honest, we all have flaws, and no parent is perfect. However, Darth Vader does right in the end. You can find him consistently at the top of Father’s Day lists everywhere you look. We couldn’t agree more. Happy Father’s Day, Anakin!

Did you know? This note is legal tender inside the island nation of Niue. Also, did you know that James Earl Jones was (only) paid $7,000 (or about $29,650 after inflation) for his stunning voice over work in Star Wars: A New Hope?
