PMG-graded Notes Excel at Spink Auction in Hong Kong, China

PMG-graded banknotes led the way at Spink's Numismatic Collector's Series Sale auction, held in Hong Kong, China from March 26 to 28. In fact, the top 10 paper money lots in the sale, each realizing at least HK$300,000 (about $38,200 USD), were all certified by PMG.
The top lot was Hong Kong, China Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China 50 Dollars, graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine. This extremely rare note from the early 20th century realized HK$650,000 (about $82,800 USD), far surpassing its pre-auction estimate of HK$200,000 to HK$300,000.

Other PMG-graded highlights from the auction included:
- Lot 1885 - China 1951 10,000 Yuan, graded PMG 20 Very Fine NET. Realized: HK$600,000.
- Lot 918 - Hong Kong, China ND (1912-26) 500 Dollars Front Printer's Model, graded PMG 62 Uncirculated. Realized: HK$550,000, far above its pre-auction estimate of HK$150,000 to HK$200,000
- Lot 1856 - China 1951 500 Yuan, graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine. Realized: HK$540,000.
- Lot 1535 - China, Pei-Yang Tientsin Bank ND (circa 1910) 100 Dollars, graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated. Realized: HK$520,000.
- Lot 852 - Hong Kong, China, Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China 1923-29 50 Dollars, graded PMG 15 Choice Fine. Realized: HK$500,000, far above its pre-auction estimate of HK$150,000 to HK$200,000.
- Lot 1534 - China, Pei-Yang Tientsin Bank ND (circa 1910) 50 Dollars, graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated. Realized: HK$480,000
- Lot 532 - Hong Kong, China 1921-23 50 Dollars Specimen, graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated. Realized: HK$450,000, far above its pre-auction estimate of HK$160,000 to HK$200,000.
- Lot 879 (2 notes) - Hong Kong, China, The Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China 1929-30 100 Dollars Color Trial Specimens, both graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ. Realized: HK$380,000, far above their pre-auction estimate of HK$100,000 to HK$150,000.
- Lot 151 - Hong Kong, China 1912-30 50 Dollars Specimen, graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine. Realized: HK$320,000.
- Lot 1705 (2 notes) - China 1930 500 Dollars - Tientsin, Color Trial Specimens, graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ and PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ. Realized: HK$320,000, far above their pre-auction estimate of HK$100,000 to HK$150,000.
