PMG-graded Notes & NGC-graded Coins Excel at September A. Karamitsos Auction

Notes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) highlighted the A. Karamitsos Auction held on September 7, 2019. Indeed, most of the significant notes and coins in the auction carried a PMG or NGC grade.
The top lot in the auction was a Bank of Greece 1878-83 10 Drachmai note, which realized €17,500 (about $19,000 USD). Graded PMG 12 Fine, this colorful note is black, blue and red with the Arms of King George I on the left, a portrait of Georgios Stavros at top center and Nereid at lower right.

The next highest-realizing lot was a set of 12 Greece bronze medals, all NGC-certified and graded NGC MS 63 BN PL and higher, which sold for €12,000 (about $13,000 USD). All but three have the Prooflike designation.
Other PMG-graded highlights included:
- A National Bank of Greece 1889-93 10 Drachmai Specimen graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated that realized €10,000 (about $11,000 USD).
- A Bank of Greece 1944 100 Drachmai overprinted on (1941) 100 Drachmai graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated that realized €5,500 (about $6,000 USD).
- A Palestine Currency Board 1939 5 Pound note graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine that realized €3,900 (about $4,000 USD).
- A Greece / Bulkes 50 Dinars graded PMG 30 Very Fine NET that realized €3,200 (about $3,500 USD).
NGC-graded highlights included:
- A Greece 1833 5 Drachmai graded NGC MS 64 PL that realized €9,000 (about $10,000 USD).
- A Greece 1828 5 Lepton graded NGC MS 62 BN that realized €5,500 (about $6,000 USD).
- A Greece 1842 5 Lepton graded NGC MS 63 BN that realized €4,500 (about $5,000 USD).
- A Greece 1830 10 Lepton graded NGC MS 62 BN that realized €4,000 (about $4,500 USD).
- A Greece 1839 Lepton graded NGC MS 64 BN that realized €3,500 (about $4,000 USD).
- A Great Britain 1823 2 Sovereign graded NGC MS 62 that realized €2,800 (about $3,000 USD).
