Posted on 6/29/2020
World banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) highlight the HKINF World Paper Money Signature Auction in Hong Kong, China. Online bidding is now underway for the auction, which concludes with livestreamed sessions planned for July 11-13, 2020.
Among the most anticipated notes in the sale is a Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corp. 1897-98 5 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine. It is one of only a few notes in this series to be printed in the 19th century. In fact, production numbers for this catalog number were so small that, according to Heritage, this is only the third note of its kind to be auctioned off in the last decade. This note has an estimate of at least $40,000.
