PMG-certified Banknotes Featured in Spink’s Mark T. Ray Collection Sale

Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is proud to have graded all certified banknotes in Spink’s October Mark T. Ray Collection of English Banknotes sale in London. The sale features 845 of the collector’s banknotes. Online bidding is open until Thursday, October 8, 2020.
The Spink sale is offering the impressive collection of Mark T. Ray, a dedicated collector of coins and banknotes for the past thirty-plus years. It contains a wide variety of British banknotes, including White Notes.

A high-grade White Note is a PMG-certified Great Britain, Bank of England 1893-1902 London £5 graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine, with an estimate of £4,000 to £5,000 (about $5,140 to $6,430 USD). These White Notes came in denominations between £1 and £1,000 and were printed in black with a blank reverse.
The £5 banknote features a crowned Britannia in the upper-left corner, who is often used as the personification of the United Kingdom. It is signed by Horace Bowen, the chief cashier of the Bank of England at the time. This is the second highest grade awarded to a banknote of its kind.
