Malaya Rarities Certified by PMG and NGC Featured in Singapore Auction

An upcoming Monetarium Singapore auction features banknotes graded by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) — including two exceptionally scare notes from Malaya — as well as coins graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®). Online bidding is already underway for the auction, which is being held on March 19-21, 2021.

A Malaya 1940 5 Dollar Specimen graded PMG 53 About Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1460) and a Malaya 1940 1 Dollar Specimen graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1481) are the top two lots in the sale. The 5 Dollar has an estimate of SGD 60,000 to SGD 75,000 (about $45,000 to $56,000 USD) while the 1 Dollar has an estimate of SGD 56,000 to SGD 70,000 (about $42,000 to $52,000 USD). These notes are rare because many were lost when the ship carrying them from England was sunk during World War II.

The sale also features three NGC-certified Proof coins struck with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The lot (667) consists of a Malaya 1954 50 Cents PF graded NGC PF 65 Cameo, a Malaya 1953 10 Cents graded NGC PF 63 and a Malaya 5 Cents graded NGC PF 64. The lot has an estimate of SGD 17,000 to SGD 19,000 (about $13,000 to $14,000 USD).
