PMG-certified Uncut Pairs of Malaysia Notes at Center Stage in Auction

Rare Southeast Asian banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are headlining a sale presented by Collectibles Auction Asia (CCA), which is based in Singapore. Currently, online bidding is available for CCA 19, with the sale ending on January 1, 2022.
Leading the sale is a rare uncut pair of Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 1,000 Ringgit, graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ. It is being offered with a PMG-certified uncut pair of printing remnants used to create the final design. These two uncut pairs (lot 640) have a starting bid of SGD 45,000 (about $32,800).
Another rarity being offered is a Malaya / British Administration 1940 1 Dollar graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine. From 1939 to 1953, the British Empire used this currency for its colonies in Southeast Asia centered on Singapore. Featuring British King George VI, this particular example (lot 561) has a starting bid of SGD 24,000 (about $17,500).

Meanwhile, a banknote possessing a fancy serial number of Solid-3’s also appears in the sale. The Singapore ND (1999) 100 Dollars graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 916) has a starting price of SGD 18,000 (about $13,100).
Other PMG-certified highlights in the sale include:
- a pair of Straight Settlements / British Administration 1935 10 Dollars with Consecutive Serial Numbers graded PMG 30 Very Fine and PMG 45 Choice Extremely Fine 45 (lot 520), which has a starting price of SGD 16,000 (about $11,600)
- a Straight Settlements / British Administration 1925-29 5 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 517), which has a starting price of SGD 15,000 (about $10,900)
- a group of five Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1970) 100 Dollars with consecutive serial numbers, all graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 764), which has a starting price of SGD 15,000 (about $10,900)
- a Malaya / British Administration 1942 (ND 1945) 50 Dollars and 100 Dollars, both graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 576), which has a starting price of SGD 12,000 (about $8,700)
- an uncut pair of Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 5 Ringgits graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ along with a PMG-certified uncut pair of 5 Ringgit Printing Remnants (lot 634), which has a starting price of SGD 10,000 (about $7,300)
- an uncut pair of Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 10 Ringgits graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated along with a PMG-certified uncut pair of 10 Ringgit Printing Remnants (lot 636), which has a starting price of SGD 10,000 (about $7,300)
- a Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1987) 50 Dollars with a Solid-5 Serial Number graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 874), which has a starting price of SGD 8,000 (about $5,800)
- a Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1997) 50 Dollars graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Unc EPQ (lot 875), which has a starting price of SGD 8,000 (about $5,800)
- a Straight Settlements / British Administration 1901-24 5 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (lot 516), which has a starting price of SGD 7,000 (about $5,100)
- a group of 10 Malaya / British Administration 1941 ND (1945) 50 Cents with consecutive serial numbers, all graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 549), which has a starting price of SGD 7,000 (about $5,100)
- a Sarawak, Government of Sarawak 1937 10 Dollars graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (lot 703), which has a starting price of SGD 6,500 (about $4,700)
- an uncut pair of Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1982-84) 1 Ringgits graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated along with an uncut pair of 1 Ringgit Printing Remnants (lot 632), which has a starting price of SGD 5,000 (about $3,600)
